Bad boy came home...

Here is a little story about a young , male cat named Tabadzija: he showed up among Danica's cats around a year ago, a big, strong, nasty tom, who started bullying her kitties. She tried for days to approach him and finally managed with some extra fine crunchies.

Needles to say, the first thing she did was to have him fixed, after which he calmed down, and soon became a semi-permanent shelter resident. Then, about few months ago he disappeared. Danica looked for him for days, but in vain. She was very sad, because, she told me, he was very nice, and handsome boy who became very fond of Danica.

Few days ago, when she was biking pretty far from home, she encountered this really sad looking alley cats colony, that broke her heart. But, says she, I knew I just had to go on, because I cannot afford another hungry, or sick kitty. But then... I know it is hard to believe, but there he was, her Tabadzija...She called his name , and at the sound of her voice the cat started running to her, all skin and bones, and dirty...She took him into her arms, and he was purring wildly. She took him home , gave him bath and what not...He is slowly becoming his old self.

I could not help saying: Danica, honestly, how do you know it is him?

She said: First, I know. Second, he is fixed. How many alley cats, living in a colony, hungry and half wild, do you know that are fixed?

I was disarmed.

Of course it is him. Danica says he does not go an inch from in front of the shelter.

Just to let everybody know that little Alla seems to be thriving...She is playing, eating a lot, and just being kitten. Did I say that Danica found that Alla is indeed a girl?

Thank God, it looks like she is a healthy kitten, who just needed proper care, and home. And she is so incredibly cute. I am posting a picture of her with a little ball, and another of the shelter resident named Zveki checking her out...

New kitten in the shelter

The other day, when Danica was running around on the bike, doing different errands ,she got a flat tire on her (overused) bike, and stopped by an auto shop to ask them to fix it for her. While waiting, she heard very painful kitten sounds, and being what she is, looked for the source. She found a very small, abandoned kitten, all dirty, full of fleas, greasy. In a word, very sad state. Danica took the kitten, and when the bike was done, she drove the little one to the shelter.

Needless to say: flea bath, regular warm bath, rubbing it with clean blankie, food...It turned out (at least for now), that the little one , except for bad flea infestation, was not in such a bad shape. Yes, it is another kitty mouth to feed (let's not even mention possible vet bills for now), but, Danica expressed a positive attitude: she claims this little one makes up for the two old shelter residents recently killed, one by a dog, and one by car.

The good new is that her friend, and donor Frank sent a good donation today, so for now, she is covered. I am sending more in the second half of the month. Let's just hope the little one is not seriously sick, or anything like it. Danica does not know whether it is boy, or girl yet, but she calls it Alla.
Very cute.

So, finally words from Danica – after two weeks! 6 of the cats got ill, one got killed by a car, another one by a dog! On top of that, Danica herself was sick (has some swelling in her knees , could not walk, and had to go to the doctors to do blood tests and what not), and then she found a half dead dog in front of the building, that she could not just leave there. ...She told me that she is sorry to have spent all the money on such big food supplies, when now she has all the vet bills coming up.

So, here is sad update:
Lizan under new therapy for some painful skin problems; Tufnica & Futka, the two recently fixed girls, both have diarrhea; Okac, the one with the twice operated eye – has pneumonia; Frca, the one that for some reason likes to run away, and then Danica has to look for her to bring her home – was wounded (eye & leg); Dvojka, a young male, killed by a rotweiller (this Danica did not see, she was not at home, and the neighbors told her how they screamed and tried to help, but it was too late)...And then she found a dog, some poor creature who was dying; she took him to the vet, and then a friend temporarily gave him a home. It turned our, fortunately, the dog was only dehydrated, and at least for now he has a home... And then, Spile got killed by a car. Danica has just buried him yesterday. So, not really good news.

I told Danica she should not regret that she spent all the money in advance for food (at least she is at peace there), but she claims that it was irresponsible, and that she should have left some aside for (never ending) emergencies. She will see what happens next.

(On the photos: Marponi very sick; Frca with under the eye wound, after Danica found her again and brought her home; Spile (the stripy one) who was killed by a car; doggie that Danica saved)
